We really do! Established over 30 years ago, we are recognised as the UK’s leading manufacturer of oak framed annexes (granny annexes), oak cottages, oak garden offices, oak garages, oak carports, oak outbuildings, oak workshops, oak summerhouses, oak gazebos and oak garden pavilions. We also supply oak floorboards, skirting boards and architrave to compliment our buildings or for your own home.
We are a family run company with deep rooted experience in oak framing, timber framing and timber processing. We take pride in the fact that our products are unique in terms of their design, appearance and adaptability.
We are rarely, if ever, beaten on price for a ‘like for like’ specification. We think that you should only buy once – our products are designed to last generations with minimal maintenance.
We are committed to our customers – our ethos is to provide the highest quality oak framed buildings with a personal, professional and pleasurable service.
We manufacture our frames in our own workshops (no third parties – we like being in control of the quality and workmanship of our products).
We are (we think) the only framing company which includes a weatherproofing system in all of our buildings, no matter how large or small.
We do ‘all things oak’, and even have our own oak flooring website www.oakfloorboards.co.uk which sells engineered oak flooring, solid oak floorboards and Herringbone oak flooring.
The oak we use is constructional grade and is ‘chunky’. Posts, eaves, beams and tie beams are 175mm x 175mm (7″ x 7″) being far more substantial than the industry standard. We use 350mm x 175mm (14″ x 7″) tie beams in our lofted ‘room over’ oak buildings so as to free span the ground floor without intermediate posts.
Our buildings include oak frames at the front and rear (i.e. they aren’t just oak fronted). The front and rear frames are locked together with oak tie beams. Knee braces are jointed into the eaves beams and tie beams. Each framing component is checked for suitability prior to being included in a project. Joints are double pegged with seasoned oak draw pegs to create incredibly strong structures which will last hundreds of years.
Our oak frames include a unique rebated weatherproofing system. This is included in all of our oak framed buildings which incorporate boarded panels, even log sheds!
Working drawings are prepared for each project. Each set includes elevations, typical foundations (a choice of raft or strip foundations), brickwork layout and wall design, typical constructional and fixing detailing. We also offer various insulation designs subject to the intended use of the building.
If you require planning permission, we can provide elevations and floor plans for inclusion in your planning application.
If your project requires a Building Regulation Certificate we provide an structural engineers report for the oak frame and timber elements of your project.
Our oak frames are traditionally jointed (generally a mix of mortise and tenons, half laps, scarfs and cogs) and ‘dry fitted’ in our workshop. Each joint is then pre-drilled and numbered before being packed ready for delivery.
Other timber components such as rafters and wall studs are generously deep creating a space to insulate walls and roof (if required). We only supply constructional grade (C16 or C24) which has been treated for insect infestation and rot. The treatment we use is called Vac Vac Clear (i.e. no green brown dye is added during treatment, so the timber arrives on site in it’s natural colour).
Our weatherboards are the highest grade & specification available. These are also sawn from construction grade softwood and Vac Vac Clear treated as standard, however oak weatherboarding is available.
Our joinery products include personnel doors, garage doors, French doors, windows and staircases.
They are hand crafted to the highest standards and perfectly compliment our oak framed buildings, but are also frequently fitted to new builds and existing properties.
Our doors are 55mm thick – industry standard is 42mm or 44mm. Our windows are ‘stormproof’ design.
We can manufacture your joinery from kiln dried Scandinavian Redwood (i.e. Pine) or Oak.
Our oak framed buildings can be delivered anywhere in the UK. We delivery on lorries with Hiab cranes so can off-load if machinery isn’t available. If a customer’s site isn’t suitable for a lorry (i.e. has a narrow drive or sharp bend), we can off-load at a suitable alternative site such as a nearby farmyard or a neighbours property.
We only purchase materials from suppliers and sawmills who share our passion for being environmentally friendly. Our timber is sourced from sustainably managed forests where many more trees are planted than are harvested.
