Frequently Asked Questions

The FAQs section is designed to provide you with quick and clear answers to common questions about Radnor Oak's stores and sheds.

Do I need planning permission for an oak framed shed or garden store?

In many cases, our oak framed stores and garden sheds can fall within permitted development rights, meaning full planning permission may not be required. Most of our designs are kept below the key 4-metre height threshold - and often below 2.5 metres for boundary placement.

Regulations vary depending on your local authority, the size of the building and where it sits on your property, so we always recommend checking with your planning office for absolute clarity. Our team are also on hand to offer guidance on which design would suit your local councils requirements.

How durable are Radnor Oak framed stores, and what is their expected longevity?

Our oak stores are built for long-term reliability. We use premium oak, naturally resistant to decay, rot and insect attack, combined with time-honoured mortice and tenon joints for exceptional strength. A Radnor Oak storage shed is a genuine lifetime investment - far outlasting conventional timber sheds. We do offer Timber Sheds - but they are also far from conventional.

What maintenance is required for my oak framed store as it weathers?

Oak frames need no chemical treatments or preservatives, and will naturally weather to a soft silver tone over time - a hallmark of traditional oak buildings.

The ancillary softwood components i.e. the horizontal weatherboards, are pre-treated with a clear preservative - ensuring they leave our doors fully equipped to handle the Great British weather as soon as they are fitted. Any doors/ windows added to your building will need to be sealed with either an oil or paint - and touched up as per the oils/paints guidelines.

Can I customise the design of my oak garden store to suit my specific needs?

Yes - while we offer a range of standard designs, there is flexibility to suit your space and purpose. You can specify bespoke footprints, layout adjustments, door styles, roof coverings and internal partitions to create the ideal store for your lifestyle. Whether for machinery, workshop use or general storage, our team will guide you through the available options.

Beyond a traditional shed, what makes an oak framed store better?

Our oak framed stores offer far more than simple storage. Whether used for bikes, garden machinery, tools, bins or seasoned logs, the strength of the oak frame delivers a level of durability and permanence that standard sheds simply can’t match.

They’re designed as long-lasting outdoor buildings that feel part of the property - a secure, beautiful structure that will serve your home for generations.

How is the oak framed store delivered, and what does the assembly process involve?

Each store arrives as a pre-jointed kit, crafted and clearly numbered in our Mid-Wales workshop. Your builder simply slots the frame together and secures it with our seasoned oak pegs, creating an incredibly durable structure that strengthens as it ages. It’s a quick, cost-effective installation - and the result is a stunning, permanent oak framed building.
