OAK FRAME:
A traditionally jointed oak frame with integrated weatherproofing system on enclosed bays. All joints are pre-drilled and numbered to ensure simple site assembly.
Our signature, chunky oak posts and beams - which are larger than the industry standard.
Generously deep oak tie beams on two-storey buildings free span the ground floor, without the need for intermediate posts - creating a useable open space without obstruction.
Oak knee braces with a curved edge.
Seasoned oak draw pegs.

ANCILLARY TIMBER COMPONENTS:
Clear pressure treated construction grade softwood in its natural colour (no green or brown dye). Externally this weathers to a silvery grey colour similar to the oak frame.

JOINERY ITEMS:
Any joinery items such as doors, windows or stairs included in your quote will be supplied from kiln ‘Softwood’ or ‘Oak’ (whichever you have requested).
The joinery we manufacture is residential standard and very heavy duty. Our doors are 55mm thick (rather than the industry standard 42mm or 44mm). Our windows are ‘stormproof’ design to ensure maximum protection from the weather.

View Guide PricingYes. A Radnor Oak building is a permanent addition to your property. The type of foundation varies subject to the type of building, however, typically, a strip foundation or raft foundation are suitable. We include details of your preferred foundations on our working drawings.
Our oak annexes and cottages, garages and outbuildings, home offices and summerhouses sit on dwarf brick walls. We detail three courses of bricks below floor level (this avoids concrete footings showing in the event that the surrounding ground is uneven) and three courses of bricks above floor level. Each course is two bricks wide with no cavities. Some oak posts sit on staddle stones (i.e posts located between pairs of garage doors and those on open fronted log stores).
Garden buildings such as gazebos and garden pavilions sit on staddle stones. If they include boarded panels these will sit on dwarf walls.
Staddle stones fitted between garage doors on garages & outbuildings will be 175mm square (the same size as the oak post) and 225mm high (the same height as the brick walls).

No. Oak is naturally durable and has ‘stood the test of time’ untreated for centuries. The ancillary softwood components we supply are Vac Vac treated. There is no need for you to add any additional weatherproofing to the structural components.
Your oak framed building will ‘weather’ externally over time. You can oil or stain your oak frame and weatherboarding for aesthetic reasons, however we like to leave everything natural.
Yes. Your joinery items will need to be weatherproofed as soon as you receive delivery.
We recommend that you protect your joinery products with a high quality paint or sealant exactly as you would for the joinery items in your house.
Our joinery is very high quality and deserves some TLC.
As we specialise in oak framed building ‘kits’ which are erected by contractors or customers, we don’t undertake site visits.
If we have an ‘Approved Contractor’ in your area, they can undertake the entire turnkey operations to include site visits, quotations and the construction of your project See more here
Yes. We have demonstration buildings constructed near our offices which include a 2 Bay Kinsham which has been recently converted for ancillary accommodation, a 3 Bay Norton (2 bays used for vehicles, 1 bay used as a home gym), a 3.5 Bay Walton (used as a fully functional 1 bedroom annexe), and a large Gazebo with oak handrails and ballustrading.
Please note that we operate viewings of our demo buildings strictly by appointment – please don’t turn up without an appointment as unfortunately we won’t be able to free up a member of staff to escort you to the demo site.

On receipt of a quotation request for our standard products, we prepare a detailed presentation to include visual images or a link to the standard oak framed building. This is usually sufficient information for a builder to offer you an estimate of the site works.
Once we have received an order, we prepare a detailed set of working drawings which your builder will use when undertaking the site operations. If your builder is concerned about what they will need to include in their estimate, please ask them to give us a call on 01544 260727.
If required, we can release our structural engineer’s report for our standard oak framed buildings once an order has been placed. Our report covers the oak frame and ancillary timber requirements.
Erecting a new building which is less than 4m in total height (i.e. our Stapleton, Kinsham, Walton, Lucton, Byton Low Ridge, Gazebos, Pavilions, Garden Offices and Summerhouses) may not require planning permission if other permitted development criteria is met.
Erecting new buildings which are higher than 4m in total height will generally require planning permission.

If a property is listed, is in a Conservation Area, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, a National Park or the Broads, erecting a new building may require planning permission.
